Sofia Vergara ‘SNL’ Monologue: Actress Pokes Fun at Her Accent [Video]

Sofia Vergara made her SNL debut this week with a hilarious open monologue and a cleavage-friendly outfit.

Sofia Vergara’s first outing as host of Saturday Night Live was solid and consistently funny — a pleasant surprise, considering the less-than-impressive promos that heralded her arrival, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Modern Family‘s Emmy-nominated star Vergara was an energetic, enthusiastic presence, and the show’s writers didn’t reduce her to a pair of boobs with a Spanish accent.

The “Modern Family” star hosted the show for the first time and based her introduction on her Colombian roots, tells International Business Times.

“I never dreamed I would be here in New York City,” Sofia Vergara said. ” I always heard that immigrants had a hard life when they came to America, but when I showed up here everyone was so nice. The men brought me drinks; they offered me a place to sleep.”

Vergara took the stage for her monologue in a skin tight black strapless mini-dress that barely contained her… enthusiasm.

“Forgive me if you can not understand what I say and I will forgive you for staring at my chest all night,” she said.

“This country welcomed me with open arms and pulled down pants,” saidVergara in a monologue mostly about her Colombian roots, move to America and unmistakable good looks. Though she also got in some good-natured digs at her “Modern Family” cast mates, tells Zap2it.

“Growing up in Colombia, it was every girl’s dream to grow up and marry Al Bundy,” says Vergara, referring to her on-screen husband, Ed O’Neill.

The actress also discussed her trademark accent, saying it could make anything sound sexy. Words like “gonorrhea,” “Rick Santorum” and “New Jersey.” And we can’t but agree.

There were mixed reactions to Vergara’s SNL appearance on Twitter. But the general trend showed that she was much more popular with the men.

“Sofia Vergara looks amazing on SNL. She doesn’t even have to be funny but I know she will be,” said Rashaud Thomas.

“I wish Sofia Vegara could have been one of my professors. Her voice/accent makes everything entertaining,” said Elissa Sanchez.

“If anything is worth watching SNL for, it’s Sofia Vergara. That woman is just amazing,” Tweeted Sparkasm.

“I’m sure the skits on SNL would be funnier if I could understand Sofia Vegara #badaccent” tweeted Adam Sanchez.

Vergara’s “Modern Family” co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson also tagged along and posted this backstage pic along with the caption, “So proud!”
