Beyoncé and Jay-Z today brought some happiness to their fans by sharing the first pictures of the stars’ baby, Blue Ivy Carter. The parents uploaded a series of portraits of their infant daughter, who was born just over a month ago.
One image shows the 30-year-old singer beaming into the camera while she cradles her daughter in her arms. In another shot the baby is seen looking into the camera. Another shows Blue holding her hand up to her ear as she sleeps in a polka dot blanket.
Although this may be the first glimpse of Blue, the baby has already broken records after her cries were featured on her father’s song “Glory.” Jay-Z released the track two days after her birth, Jan. 9, making her the youngest person ever to appear on charts.
“We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven,” said happy parents soon after the baby was born.
They continued: “She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support. Beyoncé & Jay-Z.”
The Carters posted a note along with the pics which reads, “We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives.”
Celebrity baby photos in the past have raked in millions of dollars, says ABC News. For example, Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend sold the first photos of their son Levi to OK! magazine for $3 million.
J. Lo and Marc Anthony sold their baby photos to People Magazine for $6 million. And Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie scored $11 million for the first photos of their twins.
Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren reportedly received $1.5 million from OK! Magazine for photos of their daughter Honor in 2008, says CTV News.
“The one thing that we have to remember, that unless they release pictures there would have been paparazzi on their doorstep and it would not have stopped until that first picture was out,” said Melanie Bromley with US Weekly.
Beyonce already made her first appearance after giving birth on Jan. 8 at her husband’s charity concert. The show included a performance of the song Jay-Z wrote for their daughter. “Baby I paint the sky blue/My greatest creation was you.”
Last month, the happy parents also filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect Blue Ivy’s name and reserve it for a future line of “baby carriages, baby cosmetics and diaper bags and other undoubtedly fabulous accoutrements for the fashion-forward infant.”
