Superior Court Judge Marc Marmaro put an end to the couple’s marriage Wednesday, almost six weeks after Brand filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” and one day after Perry stated that she and Brand have agreed on all financial issues. Katy signed the papers with her with her trademark signature – with a smiley face in her last name.

However, the exact terms of the breakup remain confidential. California law requires couples to wait six months after filing for divorce before it becomes official, says News. The former couple did not reveal in court when they separated. But Brand recently told reporters that the couple’s marriage was over after they spent Christmas apart.

As the couple has no children, the agreement covers distribution of their property ($6.5 million house in the Hollywood Hills). Besides they owned four properties in California, New York and London, total cost of which is about $15 million. The exes also have three cats: Her Kitty Purry, his Morrissey and, Perry once told reporters, “together we got Krusty!”

Perry asks that the court not be involved in awarding spousal support to Brand.

Russell Brand could receive $20 million of Perry’s fortune … but TMZ has found out he is not going to take a single penny of it.

Katy has earned about $44 million between May, 2010 and May, 2011, says Forbes. The couple married in October, 2010, so Russell could have scored a fortune if he exercised his community property rights.

One source put it, “This divorce is as amicable as it gets, and Russell was a mensch (Yiddish for a good person).” That means that Brand, who has about £11million from his stand-up tours and a string of movies, would like to separate from Perry with the money he earned.

In court documents filed Tuesday Perry and Brand said they “have entered into a comprehensive written settlement of all issues, including, without limitation, with respect to the property to be confirmed or assigned to each party.”

Now Perry, 27, wants her maiden name, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, to be restored.

However, some reports claim that Brand and Perry threatened each other with divorce several times recently after a string of argument, as the Daily Mail reveals.

A former aide of the pair said: “I believe the filing of this divorce was as childish as many of their arguments. It was a case of “I’m dumping you before you can dump me”, a total pride thing. I don’t think Russell liked that Katy was the bigger star. He’d pick her to pieces over the most trivial things.”

The former couple married in October 2010 in a lavish wedding at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India.

According to the Telegraph, when getting married the two were at the top of their careers. Brand was introduced to US audiences after hosting the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards and after that he shot in films such as Arthur, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek.

As for Perry, she has turned out a string of pop hits, including I Kissed a Girl and California Gurls and is scheduled to perform at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards. She has also been nominated for two awards for her song Firework.
