Beyoncé and Jay-Z have welcomed their first child – a baby girl, it has been reported. The music power couple have named their daughter Blue Ivy Carter.
A very pregnant Beyoncé had checked into the upper East Side hospital on Friday night under the name “Ingrid Jackson,” a hospital staffer told NY Daily News.
Beyoncé and her hip-hop hubby, whose real name is Shawn Carter, rented out the hospital’s entire fourth floor for $1.3 million, the employee said.
In an effort to keep images from leaking to the public, hospital workers placed tape over security cameras and are forcing employees to turn in cell phones when they arrive for their shifts, a source said.
Friend and music mogul Russell Simmons was among the first to celebrate the arrival, tweeting the new parents: “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z,” MSN reports.
Rihanna gave baby Blue a warm welcome, tweeting: “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.”
Mother and baby were both “doing fine,” the Houston Chronicle reported as it broke the news.
The 30-year-old Destiny’s Child and “Single Ladies” star is married to hip-hop icon Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.
Beyonce memorably revealed that she was pregnant onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
And her hubby certainly seems to be in the right head space, telling E! News in November that he hoped to be the kind of father whose children could talk to him about anything.
“Your child could come to you and have any type of conversation. I always hope for that kind of open relationship,” he said.
Former Beyonce’s bandmate Kelly Rowland appeared to let slip the baby’s sex in a November interview, saying, “I have no idea what I’m going to buy Beyonce at the baby shower because Jay is going to buy that little girl every single thing possible. She won’t be spoiled but she will be very well looked-after.”
Baby rumours reached fever pitch on December 30 with reports that Beyoncé had given welcomed a daughter called Tiana May Carter.
It came after reports suggested that staff at St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital – a private facility in New York – had been told to prepare for a VIP arrival.
But Beyoncé’s sister Solange rebutted the rumours by telling fans that the singer had spent New Year’s Eve at her house party in Brooklyn, according to Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old confirmed Beyonce was very much still pregnant and tweeted: ‘Shout out to my sister for being THE cutest pregnant woman ever!’
The 30-year-old singer was last seen Thursday when she was photographed leaving a Manhattan apartment building wearing hip-hugging jeans, gold heels and a patterned scarf masking her belly.
