Michael Jordan is engaged to longtime girlfriend Yvette Prieto, a model he’s been dating for three years. Publicist Estee Portnoy confirmed the news, first reported by WCNC in Charlotte, on Thursday.

Michael Jordan announced Thursday (Dec. 29) that he had asked girlfriend Yvette Prieto to marry him and she said yes. But just who is this stunning beauty?

Yvette Prieto, 33, is a Cuban-American model who has previously been romantically linked to Julio Iglesias Jr., older brother to Enrique Iglesias and obviously son of singer Julio Iglesias.

Michael Jordan, 48, considered the greatest U.S. basketball player of all time got engaged over the Christmas weekend. No wedding date was announced.

The couple have been dating for about three years. It will be the second marriage for Jordan, who divorced his wife Juanita in 2006 after 17 years. They have two sons, Jeffrey Michael and Marcus James, and a daughter, Jasmine.

The $168 million divorce settlement was one of the most expensive in history, which might explain why His Airness has been dragging his feet with Prieto.

Jordan and Prieto have managed to keep a relatively low profile, despite the fact that he is one of the most recognizable athletes in the world.

Jordan spent almost 19 years with the National Basketball Association (NBA), retiring twice from the Chicago Bulls before finally quitting the game and the Washington Wizards in 2003.

He endorsed the successful line of Nike Air Jordan athletic shoes and appeared as himself in the 1996 movie “Space Jam.” Jordan is currently the majority owner of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.

Jordan was elected to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and inducted last year. The couple owns a 5,500-square-foot home in a gated subdivision in Miami. Jordan also owns a 7,000-square-foot condo at The Trust in uptown Charlotte, which he bought last year for $3.15 million.

The couple is said to be private about their relationship, though have been spotted together at events, including Bobcats games. In 2010, Prieto was seen following Jordan as he played in the Quail Hollow Championship pro-am.

The Chicago Tribune said a story about Prieto accompanying Jordan to his 2009 induction to the Basketball Hall of Fame was one of its most-clicked stories that year.
