‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ star decided to make the holiday an even more memorable experience and proposed to longtime girlfriend  Camila Alves on Christmas Day. The actor wrote on his Who Say account: “just asked camila to marry me, merry Christmas.”

After that he posted a photo of the big moment, showing the couple kissing in front of a Christmas tree. According to a source, McConaughey got down on one knee and asked for his lady’s hand in marriage – to which she, of course, said “Yes!”

The proposal wasn’t a surprise, being that back in March, when the 42-year-old actor told magazine Esquire that he’s known the 29-year-old model and host of Bravo’s Sheer Genius is The One. “I found the woman… I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together,” he said to the reporters.

“She needs to have 50 percent of that. I mean, it’s a lot easier for me to be at 100 percent. I’d always been 100 percent. It’s braver for me at 50 percent,” McConaghey added. However, in April, the actor told Cigar Aficiando magazine that he was not against the marriage, but that he didn’t feel like it was necessary:

“Marriage isn’t something I’m against. My parents married each other three times – and divorced twice. I know a few older couples who have been married a long time and are happy; I’ve been around healthy marriages,” said the actor.

He continued: “I knew I wanted a family and I found a woman I love and felt was right for me. I thought, ‘That’s the woman I want to make a family with.’ But marriage – it’s not something we feel we need to be complete. It doesn’t mean we won’t do it,”

“It doesn’t make my mom that happy that we’re not married. But it doesn’t make her mad either. Of course, I was raised to believe that you don’t have sex until you’re married. So there you are,” he added.

Now the ‘Fool’s Gold’ star assures everybody that he is a family man: “Do you think the image of me is a true picture of who I am? No, it’s incomplete,” he noted. “But things about me that are out there – I’m not going to say they’re false.”

McConaughey added: “Am I a fun-loving guy, man? Who likes running around in the summer with his shirt off, man? Am I a guy who likes to hang out with his friends, and party and go to concerts and football games with his friends? Well, yeah! Yes, I am. Always have been. Always hopefully will be. You know?”

It is going to be the first marriage for McConaughey. He and Alves, a Brazilian model, met in 2007 at a L.A. bar and already have two children – son Levi, 3, and daughter Vida, who turns 2 next week.

It seems like McConaughey and Alves do love each other.

“The two looked madly in love. They kept kissing and laughing all evening,” a source said after the couple was noticed in New York a few months ago. “It was Camila’s night to shine. Matthew proudly stood by her side and happily played the supporting role.”

“They quickly jetted off holding hands, so I’m positive they had one hot date night ahead of them,” the source added. [Via Huff Post, Esquire and US Weekly]
