Two weeks after filing for divorce from husband of four years Thomas, the Olympic skier, 27, is slamming rumors that she’s secretly dating another headline-making athlete: pious Denver Broncos quarterback Tebow, 24, who famously said he’s “saving himself for marriage.”
“Hearing a lot of crazy rumors but rest assured I am NOT dating Tim Tebow (or anyone else),” she wrote. “I’m just friends with his family. xo, LV”
“A lot of people are wondering what’s up with me and the Tebows,” Vonn wrote in her column in the Denver Post.
“I’m just friends with the family. I met Tim and his brother Pete at the ESPY Awards like three or four years ago in the gym — we were working out there. I spent more time with Tim and his brother at the V Foundation Golf Tournament, and this year at the ESPYs.
The gold medalist was spotted sitting in the Tebow family box at Sunday’s Broncos match against the Chicago Bears, and Tebow and Vonn have also been seeing hanging out together at the ESPYs and at ski races. (She’s also been photographed “Tebowing,” or assuming the star athlete’s prayer-ful pre-game pose.
“Tim presented me with my ESPY award this year, and we kind of chatted. I said, ‘If you want to come up to Vail and ski, let me know.’ [Tebow’s brother] Robby invited me to one of their games a few weeks ago. Then we ended up being able to race at Beaver Creek, so he came up for that last Wednesday.”
Tim Tebow, the NFL quarterback of the moment, has created quite a buzz for himself with his unlikely wins, do-good nature and a very personal public declaration – he’s a virgin.
“I pretty much know their whole family now. They’re great people. It’s pretty awesome to be able to hang out with them — and to be able to witness the amazing things Tim and the Broncos can do.”
She continued: “I really get inspired by other athletes. I like to believe that the impossible is possible, and people like that make you believe.”
“That win at Beaver Creek on Wednesday, it’s similar to the Olympics, where I don’t believe it actually happened. I had an incredible amount of pressure, mostly put on by myself, wanting to do well for the fans at home.
“It still seems pretty surreal. I’m trying to let that sink in, but it was an incredible, and a day like the Olympics that I will never forget,” she added. [via Denver Post, CBS, Washington Post, US Weekly and People]
