Google To Redesign Its iPad App to Make It Easier Searching For Tablet Users [Video]

Google has revealed its plan that includes a “significant” redesign of their Google iPad app.

If you are a happy user of the Google Search app for iPad, you will be certainly glad to find out that Google has just made a significant update to this iPad app, making it more interactive, visual and easier to find required information.

The Google Mobile Blog speaks about several design changes that is based on making the app more visually oriented and less reliant on typing since, as Google acknowledges, “typing can be a challenge” on the iPad.

“Whether you’re doing research and comparing results, or exploring beautiful imagery, we have added new features to make the app more interactive, more visual and to help you find what you want more easily,” Google reported in a blog post.

In the video some of the brand new features of the free app are showed — including a more easy way to recommend and share content with others on Google+, Siri-like voice search, and Google Instant .

Google Instant has already become standard on desktop Google search. As for the iPad app, Google Instant auto-completes search indicates as you type, the aim being that your intended results will be shown before you finish typing.

“You’ll notice that searching is faster and more interactive from your first keystroke,” reported Daniel Fish, Software Engineer for the Google Search app.

A new visual way to view your search history will be also designed. If you had before a list of all the websites you’ve visited, now the improved app will stack images of the web pages by search term.

Moreover, using Instant Preview users can click an icon in the upper corner on the right side of their screen to see a visual preview of the pages that came up in their search.

The way pages load has been also changed. Now clicking on a website makes the page to slide in from the right so you are able to continue to scroll through search results as it loads.

The new search app also has two more new icons, a magnifying glass and a “+1″ button, situated at the top of web paged. They were created in order to help the user find and share relevant information. The magnifying glass icon highlights indicate where your search phrase appears on a web page you found via Google Search. The “+1″ button lets you share that page with your Google+ circles.

While ZDNet was dissatisfied with “a glorified version” of Google Search for desktop browsers, All Things D had highly estimated the app and even ranked it better than the Google Search app for Android. Writes AllThingsD, “And while Google clearly would like its tablets to take off, it can’t afford to lose ground in its core search business while Apple runs away with the market.”

So, let’s enumerate all the updates, made by Google. Now users can:

  1. Swipe through the image carousel to see image results in full-size
  2. See search results and websites side-by-side to quickly browse pages and results
  3. Compare search results as webpage snapshots in Instant Previews mode
  4. Revisit past searches with Visual Search History
  5. Use Google Instant and search suggestions to get to search results faster
  6. Highlight what you want to see on a webpage with the new Find button
  7. Easily share pages and +1 sites
  8. Quick access to other Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Docs and more
