Will Apple iPhone 4S Lose to Top Android Smartphones? [Gallery]

Apple iPhone 4S has scored a success among consumers, but the phone has faced battery-life problems for weeks now. As a result, the iPhone 4S is predicted to enter into competition with some Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid RAZR, HTC Vivid, and HTC Rezound or Vigor.

Last month, Apple offered for sale the iPhone 4S, instead of the highly expected iPhone 5. Neverless, the smartphone officially sold about 4 million units during its opening weekend.

Not long after the release of the device, persistent battery-life complaints appeared from iPhone 4S users. And some Apple customers suggested that the mobile operating system iOS 5 has a negative effect on power usage by other iDevices. To stop the rumors, Apple’s Inc. has recently released its iOS 5.0.1 software update.

Despite the battery problems, the iPhone 4S has also plenty of important features such as a 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, Apple A5 chipset, and 8-megapixel camera. It also has a 3.5-inch TFT Retina multitouch display, and is loaded with iOS 5.

The smartphone has an alternating antenna for better call reception, CDMA and GSM support, a personal assistant called Siri, iCloud, and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology, a Li-Po 1,420 mAh battery, with 8 hours of talk time on 3G networks and as many as 14 hours on 2G networks (GSM). HTC Rezound

The HTC Rezound is an Android powered smartphone featuring  LTE data connectivity, Beats Audio, and an 8-megapixel camera that shoots 1080p video.

The phone from the HTC camp, expected to hit Verizon’s 4G LTE network on Nov. 14, is rumored to sport a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It will run on Android Gingerbread juice.

The device is supposed to be a replacement for the HTC Thunderbolt, it is expected to feature a 4.3-inch display with 1280 by 720 screen resolution and about 342 ppi pixel density.

It will also offer 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It also may incorporate Beats Electronics Technology — best known for the high-performance line of headphones backed by the hip-hop artiste/producer, Dr. Dre.

HTC Vivid

The HTC Vivid for AT&T has quite an impressive feature list. AT&T’s 4G LTE Network combined with a 1.2 GHz Dual-Core Processor makes the Vivid an extremely speedy device. The HTC Vivid also features a 4.5 inch qHD Super LCD touchscreen, which makes viewing videos and playing games enjoyable.

With the 8MP camera and dual microphones, video in 1080p HD quality can be recorded and uploaded to YouTube. Android 2.3, which is the latest version of the Android operating system, comes preloaded on the HTC Vivid as well. The long-awaited 4G LTE smartphone HTC Vivid was released on Nov. 6.

Motorola Droid RAZR

The Droid Razr is billed as “the world’s thinnest smartphone.” It possesses a reinforced case, a dual-core 1.2 Ghz processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 16GB of onboard memory (plus 16GB with a microSD card) and a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display.

The phone is also capable of GPS navigation, Wireless-N Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G/4G LTE connectivity. Google’s Android 2.3 operating system is also compatible with Motorola’s new device.

At Verizon, the Droid RAZR is to be available for $299.99 under a two-year contract. Amazon.com ran a special offer only for Friday, when the Droid RAZR was available for $111.11 with a two-year Verizon contract.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first phone to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich – the version that is meant to put an end to fragmentation. Well, the list of the phone’s features is quite impressive one.

The smartphone was released in Hong Kong on Oct. 18. The phone is expected to appear in the United States later this month.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket

It is capable smartphone which runs on Google’s Android 2.3 software and a fast 1.5-gigahertz chip, it also features a high-end 8.0-megapixel camera with 1080p high-definition video recording and a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera for video calling.

The smartphone also provides 16GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card, has a Gorilla Glass display, Samsung TouchWiz UI 4.0 version, multitouch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI autorotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and gyroscope sensor. The smartphone was released on Nov. 6.

Samsung Galaxy Note
