Justin Timberlake Keeps His Promise to Attend the Marine Corps Ball

Justin Timberlake promised Kelsey de Santis he’d be her date at the Marine Corps ball — and Saturday he made good on that promise.

De Santis asked Timberlake to be her date in a YouTube video in July after another Marine asked Timberlake’s “Friends With Benefits” co-star Mila Kunis to attend a Marine Corps Ball with him.

“You want to call out my girl Mila?” De Santis said to Timberlake in her video. “Well, I’m going to call you out and ask you to come to the Marine Corps ball with me on November 12. If you can’t go, all I have to say is, cry me a river.”

After the ball, the 30-year-old singer/actor wrote in his personal blog to share the experience. “I knew I would have an evening that I wouldn’t forget… Something I could tell my friends about. What I didn’t know was how moved I would be by the whole experience.”

The “In Time” star was struck by her concern with his comfort at the ball.

“I have to tell you, it’s not every day that I meet a 23-year-old girl and she’s more worried about if I’m having fun or if I’m comfortable!” Timberlake wrote. “’Are you ok?’ she asked 2 or 3 times. “I hope you are having fun. I know you will once my crew of friends get here to the table.’ “

“It hit me all of a sudden that these were the type of people that look after us and our freedom… Humble, concerned for others before themselves… This was the type of person our Marine Corps was building. I was really blown away,” he added.

De Santis talked about a possible dance-off with the star, “My friends keep saying, ‘Dance-off!’ They know about my skills,” she said, adding, “I honestly don’t think he’ll be able to keep up with my group of people… I don’t think he’ll be able to keep up with us.”

It is still unclear whether a dance-off took place, but it was certainly a night the Marine will never forget.

Timberlake said in his letter that he was “almost brought to tears” by “a video about Pearl Harbor/WW2 and the September 11 terrorist attacks” in which some Marines told their stories. “There was a common theme that I began to notice as well,” he wrote. “No matter what the situation. No matter how dire… They were there FIRST. There on the front lines. No questions… Just reaction.”

In the end of his post Justin wrote, “To all of you that serve every day for us… Ensuring our freedom, I say: My deepest gratitude to you. I’ve met so many of my heroes… From Michael Jordan to Michael Jackson. And, nothing makes me feel more honor and pride than when I get to meet one of you. Last night changed my life and I will never forget it.”

A military wife who presented at Saturday’s ball at the Richmond Convention Center told local news station WTVR that Timberlake “posed for pictures and seemed like a normal guy.”

One more fellow Marine said, “We all brought sexy back! Justin seemed to have a good time, and it was great to see him there.”
