James Bond 23: New Movie Titled ‘Skyfall’ Officially Revealed in London [Video]

Sony held press conference to announce the as-yet untitled 23rd film about brave James Bond.

As it was officially announced, the movie will be called “Skyfall,” Daniel Craig is back in Bond role, Javier Bardem and Albert Finney are also in the actor list, Naomi Harris is playing a field agent named Eve and the film is working on a $230 million budget.

The movie is to be directed by Oscar-winner Sam Mendes. The film’s name was leaked early by a fan who spotted that Sony had registered a series of new online domain names including ‘jamesbond-skyfall’ and ‘jamesbondskyfall’. The title “has some emotional context which will be revealed in the film.”

Craig, who has played in two films about the brave secret agent, said he would like to play 007 for “a few more years”. “Being lucky enough to get the chance to do a third one, it is my intention to make the best Bond movie we possibly could – and Bond with a capital B – and I’m just incredibly proud to be part of this group of people,” he added.

Many famous faces will return to take their positions behind the camera. Dennis Gassner of Quantum of Solace production design fame will be returning along with Chris Corbould, Gary Powell and Debbie McWilliams – whose job, as casting director, has been underway for months.

Naomi Harris, who is to perform the role of a field agent called Eve, revealed: “I’ve been doing yoga three times a week to get into shape and stunt-driving and firing machine guns, which I’ve discovered I’ve got a real taste for”.

Mendes introduced Bérénice as a ‘Bond lady’ rather than a Bond girl.

Finney has already confirmed his role in the new Bond film, but movies bosses would not go into detail about his or Fiennes’ roles in the new Bond film.

Here is the description of ‘Skyfall’: “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

It was also revealed at the conference that the movie will be filming in London (largely in the Whitehall area), China (Shanghai), Scotland  and Turkey. The film is reportedly not related to any previously-published Ian Fleming novel.

“There’s lots of surprises,” Mendes, who admitted he had been a fan of the films since childhood, promised. Barbara Broccoli, producer, said they had been “considering various people” to perform the film’s theme music but had not made any decision.

At the same time as launching the film, Sony pictures created an official James Bond fan page on Facebook and claimed the username @007 on Twitter.

Next year is the 50th anniversary of the series, which began in 1962 with Sean Connery on Her Majesty’s secret service in “Dr. No”. Today marks 50 years since Sean Connery was announced to be the first James Bond.

Skyfall is to be shown in UK theaters on October 26th, 2012. It will open in the U.S. a few weeks later on November 9th. [Via The Telegraph and Bond23]
