After millions of dollars and many hours on E! leading up to their wedding, which was taped for her reality show, it’s over for newlyweds Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries.

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce on Monday just 72 days after tying the knot with Kris Humphries , according to the TMZ, which has obtained the official documents.

“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” she says in a statement to E!, which airs her reality shows. “I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

E! mogul Ryan Seacrest also confirmed news of the split.  “I’ve spoken to her briefly and she says she’s sad and got caught up in all that was going on,” Ryan Seacrest, who produces her show, said on his KIIS-FM radio program Monday morning.

Kris Humphries says he’s reeling from Kim Kardashian’s decision to file for divorce. “I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.,” he said in a statement Monday.

Kardashian, 31, lists the date of separation as today, Oct. 31, 2011, and cites the usual “irreconcilable differences,” according to her Los Angeles Superior Court filing.  She also says the couple has a prenuptial agreement and she doesn’t want to pay spousal support to Humphries.

Sources tell TMZ that the split stems from a difference in opinion on where the couple was planning to live. Humphries hopes to settle down in Minnesota, while Kardashian wants to stay in California near her family.

The pair began dating in December 2010 and their relationship was chronicled on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” with the season finale capturing Humphries’ romantic proposal. And then came the wedding.

They tied the knot on Aug. 20 in front of a superstar congregation, including all members of Kim’s reality family, and many celeb guests, including Brody Jenner and Avril Lavigne, Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria, Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough, Kathy Lee Gifford, Mel B, Sugar Ray Leonard, Serena Williams and others.

But things haven’t been smooth sailing since their August nuptials. The couple has been busy filming a new season of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York,” and rumors have been swirling that all is not well in the Kardashian-Humphries household.

It’s also rumored that Kardashian had lunch with ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush over the weekend, which just added fuel to the fire.

A source close to Kardashian tells PEOPLE that she “wanted a fairy tale” but that the couple found “the pressure of the TV show just isn’t what they could have handled.” The filing comes after weeks of speculation of trouble in their brief marriage.

For Halloween, Kim Kardashian, dressed as Poison Ivy, hosted a party solo, telling People Magazine that her husband was not around because she was headed to Australia this week.

“Something I really prepared Kris for [was] to let him know that no matter what we do, there’s going to be rumors,” she told People. “It used to really upset me and now I don’t even think about it.” [via People, E! Online and TMZ]
