Elderly Couple Tested Webcam and Suddenly Became YouTube Video Stars [Video]

Bruce and Esther Huffman became real video stars when their granddaughter put on YouTube a video of them trying to figure out how a new web camera works.

The couple lives in the Hillside Retirement Community. Three weeks ago they upgraded to a new laptop. “This is my new computer,” Esther said. “I think it’s so pretty this is one reason I got it, because it’s aqua.”

The Huffmans decided to try out their new camera. Their granddaughter had tried to teach them how to use it before. “I had no idea how to do it I didn’t remember what she said so the whole time I was irritated chewing gum so hard and I looked like … ” Esther said. “I don’t know what.”

“The wicked witch of the west,” Bruce added. For almost three hilarious minutes, the candid couple made monkey faces, sang, burped and patiently waited for something to actually record.

“I’m bored,” Bruce said. “I don’t know how to work the computer. She’s the computer person.” The couple’s granddaughter called it “Web Cam 101 for Seniors” and put it on YouTube. The clip has received over 1.8 million page views in just a few days.

“When I was 8 years old, my uncle paid me five cents if I’d make a monkey face and I’ve been working on it all these years,” Bruce said. “I never knew it’d make me famous. He’s up in heaven and he’d be amazed at what’s going on right here right now.”

The couple assures everyone that they hadn’t been acting. “If we’d have staged it, I would have been all, “uhhhhhh … ,” but since we knew nothing was happening, we were just being ourselves just having fun laughs,” Bruce said.

The Huffmans are surprised so many people are checking out their video, but they’re glad people are enjoying it. As for making another video in the near future, they’re not so sure about that.

“I guess there is a lot of people that have watched that thing,” Ester told MyFox Phoenix in an interview Wednesday.

“We did not realize [the camera was on] at all, otherwise I would not have burped and groped,” added Bruce.”Well, I might have.”

When asked about having the video posted on the web, Esther said, “I thought it would be fun. I didn’t know anything about YouTube. I never looked at YouTube before.” [via Katu and My Fox DC]
