The ubiquitous popstar is known for her wildly diverse and, ahem, unique wardrobe, but behind all the fishnets and religious iconography and houndstooth, there is the unmistakable face of Gaga shining through. That may all change on the cover for her next single, “You and I,” which she tweeted on Friday.
Lady Gaga continues to have fun with those hermaphrodite rumors, this time appearing in drag for an upcoming issue of Vogue Hommes Japan. Pictured is the model Jo Calderone, who, if you’re a major Gaga fan or fashionista, you know is the drag alter-ego of the Grammy winning popstar, this cigarette-smoking tough with a whole bunch of attitude.
The images were taken by photographer Nick Knight and arranged by Haus of Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti. The photographs are to appear in a men’s fashion editorial for the September issue.
“You will never find what you are looking for in love, if you don’t love yourself. #You&ISingleCover,” she wrote on Twitter, promising to release the single’s music video when she hits her 1000th tweet. Earlier this week, the singer said she would release the video for ‘You And I’ when she reach her 1000th tweet on Twitter.
“Lady Gaga has once again gone beyond usual. In a recent photo shoot, Gaga didn’t wear a wacky outfit or show lots of her skin. In a series of new photographs, Gaga dressed in suit and shirt. In one shot, the 24-year-old singer is seen wearing a white shirt with unbuttoned suit and having her black hair gelled up, while she smokes a cigarette,” writes AceShowbiz. “In another shot, additionally, the ‘Poker Face’ hitmaker is seen in a white shirt and showing the right part of her face, totally looking like a male.”
This most recent photospread does come in tune with everything else Gaga has been doing lately. Her video for “Alejandro,” for instance, is meant to be a tribute to the gay community, and Gaga’s way of showing her appreciation and respect for it, as she said shortly after it was release. Moreover, her upcoming album, whose name she’ll reveal precisely on New Year’s Eve, will also tackle some very serious political and social themes, as we also informed you a short while ago.
‘You and I’ is the fourth single from Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ album and the video will be released soon. This week also saw Lady Gaga deliver a birthday message for Tony Bennett, who turned 85 this week. In other news today, Gaga is facing legal action – a singer called Rebecca Fancescatti claims she ripped-off her 1999 song Juda on the hit Judas. [via Huffpost and Softpedia]
