Apple has just launched a refreshed MacBook Air that comes with the new version of Apple’s desktop operating system, OS X Lion, which also went live today.

The update is an evolutionary step for Apple’s lightest portable computer: the new 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air look pretty much the same as the last generation. Both computers now come with Intel’s Core i5 and i7 CPUs, backlit keyboards as well as that speedy Thunderbolt port.

The 11-inch MacBook Air starts with a 1.6 GHz CPU, 64 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM memory, with a price of $999; the 13-inch version starts with a 1.7 GHz CPU, 128 GB of storage and 4 GB of memory at $1,299.

The most powerful 11-inch Air now has a 1.6 GHz CPU, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage (you can further upgrade the storage to 256 GB and the CPU to 1.8 GHz) at the price of $1,199. The top 13-inch model comes with a 1.8 GHz CPU, 256 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM and it will cost you $1,599. [via Apple]
