Bikes as Art: Meet Vandeyk Contemporary Cycles [Big Picture]

Vandeyk Contemporary Cycles are creative professionals designing ravishingly beautiful, handbuilt bicycles. Nightstream is the first collection – art objects on two wheels strictly limited to 25 pieces.

Vandeyk Contemporary Cycles is a team of creative professionals dedicated to a simple mission: designing and building the most ravishingly beautiful bicycles – and not compromising along the way. Ever. The result: perfectly handcrafted and strictly limited objects of art — 25 bicycles per collection worldwide — and not a single one more.

Bicycles are Arendt van Deyk’s passion, the founder of Vandeyk Contemporary Cycles GmbH, and that is his reason for starting the new company, which he refers to as “a ‘soulproject’ with the ambition for joy and perfection for all of us – instead of just being a mere business-focused venture.”

A handpicked brigade of renowned experts in fields as diverse as design, handmade bicycle frame building, photography and writing – the Vandeyk team is indeed a very special crew of likeminded bel-esprits. And good at going where the mainstream will never dare to venture. Combine radical simplicity, craftmanship and persistency.

Add to that the best components from the most renownded manufacturers like Chris King, T.A. Specialités, Paul Components or Phil Wood. And then deduct from all that the will to follow the next technology-hype, the need for more comfort than absolutely necessary and the acceptance of anything below state-of-the-art. It’s as simple as that. At least, when compromises are not part of your daily routine.

Vandeyk trusts a man’s hand more than anything else, just as well as in a gentleman’s agreement. That’s why the Vandeyk bicycle frames are devotedly handcrafted by the best framebuilders in the industry. The Nightstream collection is personally manufactured by the Vandeyk head of engineering and framebuilding, Georg Blaschke who ranks among the best framebuilders in Europe. Besides having 20 years of experience in the handmade process, Georg has also been senior engineer at SRAM with a proven track record as an exceptionally gifted technology brain. [Vandeyk via The Coolist]
