Avalanche Cliff Jump with Matthias Giraud and Stefan Laude [Video]

Extreme skiers Matthias Giraud and Stefan Laude being filmed base-jumping off a cliff in the Alps were in for surprise when they turned around to see an avalanche just seconds behind them.

Ever wanted to ski down the mountains in the French Alps? What about skiing as an avalanche chases you off a cliff? If you answered yes to both, you can know live vicariously through Matthias Giraud and Stefan Laude. Extreme skiers Matthias Giraud and Stefan Laude recently filmed a commercial as they skied off a cliff in the French Alps and pulled open their parachutes to land safely on the ground.

The duo wore helmet-cams so that you can view the video and feel a part of the action. The film was shot for the HD camera GoPro.  Both, Matthias Giraud and Stefan Laude are expert skiers and skydivers and their video captures some amazing imagery. “It was a probably the best run of my life,” Giraud wrote on his website after the stunt. “The avalanche going over the edge we jumped from was triggered within the last 100 feet before the cliff. So, it is unlikely to catch you unless you fall. But, like any exposed line in the Alps, a fall means death. So, you don’t fall,” he wrote. “It’s part of the game and you know that before going into it.” [Matthias Giraud via The Telegraph (UK) and Perth Now]
