A mile-wide tornado descends on the town of Tuscaloosa in Alabama, part of a weather system that has killed 128 people in that US state alone in the last 24 hours.

Tornadoes are wreaking havoc across the South again, and according to TV station ABC 33/40, dozens of people have died so far. Watch the dramatic video above as a tornado slams into Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where you can easily sense the fear in the shallow breaths of the videographer.

“There are very few times in my lifetime and in your lifetime that you can remember an outbreak of tornadoes, long track tornadoes like we’re having right now at this present time,” Alabama Governor Robert Bentley told a news conference in Montgomery.

Northern and central parts of Alabama had the highest death tolls and there nine people were also injured, according to the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee have all declared a state of emergency. “This has been a very serious and deadly event that has affected our state, and it’s not over yet,” Mr Bentley warned.
