21-year-old British artist Aaron Savage has just unveiled his iconic bricks – legendary album covers made out of Lego. He gave the childhood toys different haircuts, clothes and facial expressions to make them look like his idols.
Aaron’s instantly recognisable work includes album covers from the 1950s to the present day. They include Nevermind by Nirvana, Saturday Night Fever by The Bee Gees, Parallel Lines by Blondie, Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, One Step Beyond by Madness and many many others.
Album covers was an easy choice for me because it combined my two interests,” said the artist. “I did some research to see what Lego was available and then picked covers that I knew could be recreated. I found a Lego banana on eBay, so I knew I could recreate the Velvet Underground cover and added that to the list.”
He continued: “A lot of the covers are iconic but a few are from newer or less known genres,” he said. “I wanted there to be at least one or two covers everyone could recognise.”
“My favourite is the Elvis cover because I feel it captures the emotion and movement of the original image, which is hard when using a ridged medium like Lego,” he added. “When I show my work to somebody for the first time and they can tell what it is, I know I have done a good job.” [Check out the full gallery here]
