  • My daughter's birthday is on Christmas day, so every year we've been going up to Tahoe for a little white Christmas. And every year, I would take the opportunity to take a few b+w landscapes, but my daughter never liked any of my black and white photos. So this year, I wanted to do a photo she would like. Lucky enough, there was a blizzard on Christmas night. So, after the birthday party I set out to make a photo. A few hours in a blizzard with a laser pointer and some color filters can do wonders. • This hummingbird nest with two eggs was at eye level, surprisingly close to a main trail in the Monteverde Cloud Forest, Costa Rica, spotted while on a hike December 23, 2010. The hummingbird mother returned to the nest a few seconds after this shot was taken, looked me right in the eye as if to say "keep moving please," which I did, after taking her picture too! • On a warm Boxing Day in the outer western suburbs of Sydney, Australia, this rainbow lorikeet was more interested in feasting on a flowering gum tree than any "Nature Paparazzi" that may be lurking around. It spent a good few minutes gorging itself before flying off. • The Prandtl-Glauert singularity, also referred to as a vapor cone, shock collar, or shock egg, is the point at which a sudden drop in air pressure occurs. Under the right atmospheric conditions, this causes a visible condensation cloud to appear about an aircraft traveling at transonic speeds. This occurs for very short periods, sort of like a flickering light. This was a lucky capture at the Miramar air show in San Diego, California. • I took this photo of a male Southern Rock Agama at the end of the Crag Lizard Trail in the Valley of Desolation near Graaff Reinet overlooking the Camdeboo plains late one afternoon in South Africa. I had actually gone there to try and get a better shot of the Verreaux's eagle, when I came across this beauty lying on the edge of the precipice. So down on my tummy I got so that I could get him standing proud of the rock. Note his toes and tail lifted off the rock. The temperature was about 37 degrees. • I took this picture in Jackson, Wyoming, around 10pm at night. It was around zero degrees Fahrenheit that night. People claimed the lights from the town reflected off of very cold ice crystals to produce the light saber like lights. The exposure was 30 seconds, f8, and an ISO of 100. One of the coolest spectacles of the new year in my book. Photo and caption by Bobby SudekumI took this picture in Jackson, Wyoming, around 10pm at night. • This picture was taking at a banana plantation in Costa Rica. While I was there we got to walk around the plantation and see how everything was done. It was really neat to see how much time it took to get all of the bananas ready for shipment. Photo and caption by Christina DiPaolaThis picture was taking at a banana plantation in Costa Rica.
