If you’re a fan of Eminem and Rihanna and you loved their collaboration “Love the Way You Lie,” then we have some pretty amazing news for you.
Rihanna and Eminem have teamed up again! The duo has just released the part two of their wildly successful summer hit, but Rihanna admits she had some hesitation about trying to re-create the magic of that first song.
“When I first heard the idea about doing a part two, I was just completely against it,” she revealed to MTV News. “I just felt like you couldn’t beat the original. There’s no way you can outdo that, so why compete with it?”
However, after trying out several versions of a sequel track to the 2010 song off Eminem’s ‘Recovery’ Album, she knew the magic from the first cut was still in the air.
“We heard a broken-down version that was stripped down, just piano. That’s going to be a bonus on iTunes,” she said.
“I fell in love with it. We recorded it, then we did another version to the stripped-down version with drums, then we did another version with drums and Eminem. And then that was the one that just felt really good.”
“I love both: I love the broken-down version, as well as the new one with Eminem,” she continued.
Without giving away too much, Eminem certainly doesn’t hold back on his verse, rhyming about trading punches with the song’s female protagonist and being obsessively in love with her. Rihanna admits it’s a “crazy verse.”
“Something is wrong with Eminem,” she said, laughing. “He has so much in his mind that I almost feel lucky for him that he has music. Music is such a great release for him. He’s one of my favorite artists.”
Not only did the original track have everyone buzzing, but its video, which features Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan, also had everyone talking.
The song will be featured on Rihanna’s new album, ‘Loud.’ The album won’t be released until November 16th, but ‘Love the Way You Lie (Part II)’ has already leaked online.
This new collaboration is the softer counterpart to Eminem and Rihanna’s smash single ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ which appeared on the rapper’s epic album, ‘Recovery.’
While the chorus of the song is the same as the first, “Love the Way You Lie,” this version seems to examine life through Rihanna’s eyes.
Well, maybe not Rihanna’s eyes per se, but the female half of the “Love the Way You Lie” couple. Where Eminem’s version was angry and bitter, Rihanna’s is sad and remorseful. The songs complement each other well.
“Love the Way You Lie (Part II)” starts out with Rihanna describing a happy beginning to their relationship. She sings, “On the first page of our story, the future seems so bright.”
Things quickly go downhill. She explains that “this thing turned out so evil, I don’t know why I’m still surprised.” She shows that she still seems to be willing to make things work when she sings, “But you’ll always be my hero, even though you lost your mind.” You can read the full lyrics here.
Could this song possibly reflect the way Rihanna felt while she was involved in an abusive relationship with Chris Brown? It’s sad to consider that for this young beauty, the lyrics may have been written from the heart.
Once again, Eminem and Rihanna have delivered an exceptional song with a powerful story line. Fans will be happy with “Love the Way You Lie (Part Two).”
