U.S. pop singer Beyonce Knowles is expecting her first child with rapper husband Jay-Z, US Weekly magazine reported on Wednesday.

“If two people are perfectly prepared to have kids, it’s Jay and B,” a source told the magazine. “That kid will be born a superstar!”

The Grammy Award-winning artist is said to be in her first trimester of pregnancy, which reportedly came as something of a surprise.

A spokesman for the 29-year old star has refused to comment on the report. According to the magazine no one was more surprised about the pregnancy, which is less than 14 weeks, than the “Single Ladies” singer herself.

“B was shocked. She loves kids, but she wasn’t ready to be a mother just yet,” said a source close to the singer. “She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again. But she knows this is a gift from God and she’s so happy.”

The couple have not yet confirmed the news – and Beyonce has been subject to false pregnancy rumors in the past, notably in March when U.S. website Mediatakeout reported Jay-Z was “extremely happy to be having his first child with Bey.”

Husband 40-year old Jay-Z is ‘elated.’ The source told US Weekly magazine: “He’s always wanted a big family. They were going to wait a few more years, but he wanted to push it. He will be the best father in the world.”

Sources also say Knowles is in her first trimester and the couple plans to raise the child in their massive Tribeca pad. “I don’t think this will change anything in their careers,” the source told Us Weekly. “Many musicians have kids and still manage.”

Regardless of this, Wednesday’s report quickly took social network Twitter by storm. “Please, let little Jay-Z and Beyonce look just like the Mommy,” one fan wrote, as another added, “Shout out to jay and Beyonce on they 1st child.”

Celebrities were also starting to pass on congratulations to the couple. “Jay has been all about family since I met him, and he’s always going to be,” record executive Kevin Liles, a longtime friend of the couple, told Us Weekly. “I wish them the best.”

The couple is notoriously private about their relationship, but Beyonce made no secret of her desire to have kids in the past.

“I definitely want to have a child, but I know from my nephew it’s a lot. I hope that those things will just happen naturally. I still haven’t had time to relax,” she told Allure magazine earlier this year.

Beyonce’s nephew is Daniel, the son of her sister Solange Knowles, who said Beyonce would make a “great mom.” While Solange Knowles said: “She’s got the most beautiful heart. She’ll be a great mum.”

Texas born Beyoncé is one of the best selling female artists of all time. She began her career with all girl group “Destiny’s Child” before releasing a solo album in 2003 that included one of her biggest hits “Crazy in Love.”

While her musical career flourished selling more than 100 million records worldwide she also turned to acting and appeared in the Oscar nominated movie “Dreamgirls.”

After she married Jay-Z in 2008 they were named as the second most powerful couple in showbusiness with a combined fortune of more than $1 billion.

Her financial empire includes a fashion line called the “House of Dereon” and she has lucrative sponsorship deals with Pepsi, L’Oreal and Armani.

She has said one of her proudest moments was attending President Barack Obama’s inauguration ball where she performed as the first couple danced to her singing.

Despite her often provocative videos, Beyoncé says she is naturally shy and kept her relationship with Jay-Z a closely guarded secret for six years.

She claims that when she performs she takes on an alter ego known as Sasha Fierce who is able to be more outgoing and overtly sexual than she is in real life. [via NY Post and US Weekly]
