‘Star Wars’ is everywhere so it was only a matter of time before Improv Everywhere took their own stab at bringing their favorite scenes to the masses.
Since 2001, Improv Everywhere has entertained the public at random in New York City. Some of their 100 improv stunts include ‘Frozen Grand Central,’ the ‘Food Court Musical,’ ‘Ghostbusters in the New York Public Library’ and the famous ‘No Pants Subway Ride,’ and now ‘Star Wars NYC Subway Car.’
And for their latest mission, they invaded a New York City subway car, treating passengers to a reenactment of the first Princess Leia and Darth Vader scene from Star Wars.
Although we’ve seen comedy troop Improv Everywhere undertaking a lot of missions in the past but we’ve never seen such a big reaction from spectators.
For example, in the ‘Ghostbusters in the New York Public Library’ mission it was immediately obvious who was a native New Yorker and who was a tourist, judging by who had the biggest reaction to the goings-on.
However, this time everyone on the NYC train seem pleased and delighted, a heady task on a subway car in New York during the summer.
“The white walls and sliding doors on the train reminded us of the rebel ship from the movie, and we thought it would be fun to see how people would react to a surprise appearance by the iconic characters,” the troop says of the mission at their official website.
The subway Star Wars performance is greeted with laughter and applause – and mobile phones were soon whipped out to record it for posterity. Don’t forget to check the brilliant Star Wars YouTube video below. [Improv Everywhere via Mashable and Star Wars Blog]
