5 by Peugeot Has Been Officially Revealed

Peugeot wants to make a little buzz of its new “5 by Peugeot” concept car before the Geneva Motor Show 2010. Despite the ridiculous name, the “5 by Peugeot” concept is the inspiration for the next 508 sedan, Peugeot’s competitor the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia.

The 5 by Peugeot is to be powered by a 2.0L 163 hp HDi FAP diesel engine that runs in concert with a 37 hp electric motor mounted in back, combining for an efficient 200 hybrid horses.  The system, dubbed Hybrid4, sends power to all four wheels and, according to Peugeot, will allow the new 508 to run on electricity alone for an unspecified range. Naturally aspirated gasoline engines are expected to be included on the all-new 508 when it hits the market.

Expect to see more of the 5 by Peugeot at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show 2010 this March. Check out the gallery below for a host of high-res images.  [Peugeot via Autoblog]
