Jay-Z’s latest video, dropped at 12:01 a.m. on January 1st, is a truly magnificent montage of performance art across 4 minutes and 15 seconds of video.

Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 has not only delivered some top-shelf singles (“Run This Town,” the chart-topping “Empire State of Mind”) and truly banging deep cuts (“Off That” and “Hate” featuring Kanye West) but also some of the best videos of Jay-Z’s career. The rapper carried over his 2009 momentum into 2010 with new video for “On to the Next One,” which premiered just after midnight on January the 1st.

Jay-Z’s “On To The Next One” Video is a truly magnificent montage of performance art across 4 minutes and 15 seconds of video and it features bleeding sneakers, high-flying kung fu ghosts and a wild range of quickly-chopped imagery.  he clip periodically cuts back to a series of basketballs that bounce in slow motion. Those basketballs are on fire (perhaps Jay-Z, in his capacity as part owner of the New Jersey Nets, simply wants to make “NBA Jam” a reality). [via MTV]
