Scheduled to make its debut at CES 2010 later in the week, this iPhone add-on from accessory manufacturer Mophie will turn any iPhone into a mobile credit card reader. Simply swipe cards on the go and make payments without any traditional credit card reading equipment. Mophie’s device will be a combination of a dedicated hardware device that bolts on to your iPhone or iPod touch, and third party app that will allow small businesses the ability to take credit card payments on the go.

The move from mophie, who has so far focused on battery packs to extend the life of the iPhone, pits the company up against newly created company Square, created by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, which also allows iPhone users to take payments on the go.

On the other hand, if you’re a consumer who wants to keep his credit card information secure, this might not be the best solution. However, these new systems appear to make swiping information from a credit card painfully easy for businesses and criminals alike. [via Pocket-lint]
