The Local Motors Rally Fighter, set to hit the world stage at SEMA, is a new concept in the world of autos: it’s designed and fine-tuned by Web community of car nuts. “Designed and built for the deserts of the American Southwest”, the RWD car is powered by a 3.0-liter 265 hp BMW twin-turbo diesel engine. It sits on a steel tubular frame and uses thermoplastic and carbon fiber body work to keep weight down to 3,200 pounds, despite its large, imposing presence. According to company plans, the car will sell in the $50K range through a collection of up to 50 micro-factories/service centers around the country. [via WorldCarFans]
