Canon PowerShot S90

Canon has announced only the next generation of PowerShots and no one new digital SLRs were released. However, I wasn’t one of the disappointed as I love PowerShots cameras of all shapes, sizes, and capabilities. And Canon delivered exactly that. Six new models were introduced: the SX20 IS, SX120 IS, G11 and S90, SD980 IS, SD940 IS. Though the SX20 IS and SX120 IS are only minor upgrades to their predecessors, the G11, SD980 IS, and SD940 IS all have major tweaks separating them from their previous iterations. The biggest news of the day was the reintroduction of the S-series in the form of the pocket-sized S90 (see the photo above), which includes 28mm-equivalent wide-angle f/2.0 lens with a 3.8x optical zoom, customizable control ring right around the lens and RAW+JPEG capture. Some other interesting changes include lessening of the megapixels on the G11 to 10MP (14.7 on the G10) to reduce noise, return to an articulated LCD on the G11 and touchscreen on the SD980 IS. The new cameras will be available in October. [via CNET]
