At last Ferrari has unveiled the mid-rear Ferrari 458 Italia, the replacement model for the Ferrari F430. The new Ferrari 458 Italia will be presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2009.
The 458 Italia’s styling has been heavily influenced by the requirements for aerodynamic efficiency that generate 140 kg at 200 km/h.
What about exterior, the new Ferrari458 features a single opening for the front grille and side air intakes designed to direct air to the coolant radiators and the new flat underbody. The sports car also comes with small aerolastic winglets which generate downforce.
The Ferrari 458 Italia is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 direct injection engine that has a very low piston compression ratio of 12.5:1. The engine produces 570 CV at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which increases performance whilst very smooth shifts even at full throttle. The sports car produces just 320 g/km of CO2 and fuel consumption of 13.7 l/100 km (combined cycle) even though the new V8 engine is more powerful than the previous V8 engine.
The weight of the Ferrari 458 Italia has also been reduced where the 458 has a dry weight of 1,380 kg with a power-to-weight ratio of 2.42 kg/CV. Weight distribution is at 58 % over the rear axle.
The new 458 Italia accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds with a maximum speed of more than 325 km/h.
The Ferrari 458 Italia also features suspension system that consist of twin wishbones at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear tuned for maximum roadholding and superlative handling, aluminum chassis, E-Diff and F1-Trac controlled by the same ECU resulting in a 32 % increase in longitudinal acceleration out of corners compared to previous models and high-performance ABS.
The brake system features a prefill function whereby the pistons in the callipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied. The combination of the brake system and the ABS cuts the 100 to 0 km/h braking to a mere 32.5 m.
The new ferrari will have a combined cycle (ECE+EUDC).
The interior features a new layout and a revolutionary ergonomic interface where the main controls are clustered on the steering wheels.
