HP may be onto something with its unfortunately-named Photosmart Premium with Touchsmart Web printer. Through a set of icons that look like a certain smartphone, the printer can connect to the Web and print coupons, maps, games, news, weather and movie tickets, all without a PC. Google, Coupons.com, Fandango, USA Today and Web Sudoku are among HP’s early partners, and other “apps” will be available for download later this year. The screen is a 4.3-inch LCD display that can also control the usual print, fax, copy and scan functions. As expected, it can network wirelessly with other PCs, but also works with the iPhone, iPod Touch and Bluetooth-enabled devices. The price for new device is about $400.
